A south-facing beach in the north
Heading north, Großenbrode is the last seaside resort on the Wagrien Peninsula - the name given to the scenic stretch of land between the Bay of Kiel and the Bay of Lübeck. Whilst most seaside resorts along the Baltic Sea face the challenge of having beaches oriented toward the north, east, or west, Großenbrode boasts a south-facing beach.
The apartment is located right by the Baltic Sea, at the western end of the town's attractive seaside promenade. A café as well as various restaurants and snack bars can be found either within the actual apartment building or in the immediate vicinity. Großenbrode’s main beach - featuring fine sand and stretching for nearly one and a half kilometres - lies right on the doorstep; it is very wide, ensuring it never feels overcrowded, even during peak season. The apartment is also just a short walk from the local pier, which extends 350 meters out into the Baltic Sea.
A voyage of discovery in East Holstein
The area around Großenbrode, with its gently rolling landscape and picturesque tree-lined avenues, is perfect for exploring by bicycle. The popular town of Heiligenhafen - featuring excellent tourist amenities - lies on the other side of the peninsula, only a few minutes by car. The entire coastline surrounding Großenbrode and Heiligenhafen is ideal for a variety of water sports; the location is particularly liked by kitesurfers and surfers. There is a water sports school located right across from the apartment. You can also hire the necessary equipment from there.
Großenbrode is also ideally situated for exploring the rest of East Holstein. Just beyond the town, the striking Fehmarn Sound Bridge leads to Germany’s third-largest island, home to the bustling 'capital' of Burg and charming seaside villages. Oldenburg in Holstein - the region's administrative and commercial hub - is also close by. The proud Hanseatic city of Lübeck (with its world-famous Holsten Gate) and Kiel, a city with distinct maritime charm and the state capital of Schleswig-Holstein, are both just an hour’s drive away. Thanks to frequent ferry services between Fehmarn and the Danish island of Lolland, a day trip to Denmark is easily arranged.

Travelling from Hamburg towards Fehmarn, Großenbrode can be reached via the A1 motorway and the well-maintained B207 road. Großenbrode has its own exit.
...by train:
Due to the expansion of the railway line between Hamburg and Copenhagen - in preparation for the future Fehmarn Belt Tunnel - train services to Großenbrode have been suspended for several years. An express bus service from Lübeck is operating as a temporary alternative.
...by plane:
The nearest airport is Hamburg. Depending on traffic, it is a one-and-a-half to two-hour drive to Großenbrode.
